BardBliss: Glimpsed

Clematis Josephine

Listening to: On the piano, I think this guy, long from now, will be known as that one in a million that comes along only every few generations. At his concert, during his solo encore, he made us cry -- just being witness to such genius. What a privilege. (The only reason the jazz community doesn't take him seriously enough right now is because a) he's pretty and b) he does too many other things. God forbid someone be creative in many ways!)

Today's Bliss Formula: We are in Columbus, Ohio, visiting my sister and her husband and our lovely, funny, silly, giggling, just-about-eight year old niece, Abbie.

Glimpsed

They say that inside my
chest resides a flower
and at the center sits
God, smiling.

I sit and try to feel this,
try to know this.
Blossoming inside each of us
is a universe, radiating.

I sit and try to visualize
the stars, the planets, the giant
clouds birthing galaxies,
all of this deep

Within my ribs, deep inside
my cells, beyond the quarks
and the strings, a tiny wholeness
within a separateness

that is me.

I try, but only for a brief
moment, so brief it’s easily
missed, do I grasp my true size
and then it slips

and I am left
empty, holding only an aching
memory.

Harry Connick,Jr. is indeed a once in a generation talent! Have you seen him in concert? Great time. Loved the poem. Enjoy your time with your niece and family! Thanks.
