enCouragingBliss: Making a List...

A few days ago, I got the braces off of my top teeth. This is utter heaven. I still have them on the bottom, but I don't even care -- this little bit of relief is something to be so grateful for. Something to be more grateful for: the fact that the braces worked to get rid of my TMJ pain and my associated teeth grinding.

And this got me to thinking about today's challenge for enCouragingBliss.

(If you're new to this idea, go here.)

I thought it would be fun to make today's challenge fairly simple and yet very direct. This goes to the heart of the matter.

Think back over your last week. Where, what, when, and how did you find moments of bliss? Were there times or activities during which you felt completely on this path of bliss?

Were there any moments when you were able to transcend the ordinary, the difficult, and see the bigger picture -- the bliss that encompasses all of it?

Were you aware of the giant blissful response of Yes! to even that which was, perhaps, uncomfortable?

To start, here's my "list:"

Going to my healer and realizing that I am getting better already. I have finally, completely taken my physical well-being seriously enough to put the energy into it which it deserves. And the Infinite Divine, I think, has sighed a big sigh of relief.

Realizing before I took on too much that I was taking on too much. And putting a stop to it. This is big for me. Once I tell someone I am interested in working with them and meeting to talk it all over, I already feel 100% obligated. Usually, I would just push through, but this time, I said, no, sorry, but for me, I have to pull back.

Today, while working on a nonfiction book proposal, the first couple of paragraphs for a second novel came spilling out. Totally unexpected! And it felt like a little gift, a little congratulations for staying true to my priorities. (See paragraph directly above.)

Slowing down. A lot of things are coming together for me right now, and a big one is learning that I am not taking the time I need to assimilate all that I am learning and doing. So "slowly" is my new guiding mantra. And just after one day of paying attention to that little whisper in my ear, I am feeling the difference.

The magnolia tree blossoming in the alley.

The crab apple and the lilac in our yard just starting to open.

Lilly cat turning out to be, just like our sweet Jobie who passed, a yoga cat. When I roll out the mat, she gets on and starts doing downward facing dog and then rolls and rubs against me during my practice. sigh.

Being gluten free.

Sleeping so much better.

A writing group of kindred souls who continue to enlighten and lighten one another.

We managed to plant all of our vegetable seeds. Everything is in! And some things self-sowed from last year.

We ate the season's first asparagus from our garden two nights ago. Olive oil and broiled. This is food of the Gods.

I could go on and on...

But how about you? Where have you been discovering/finding/seeing/feeling/living/being your bliss this past week?

Remember, you can leave your answer in the comments, of if you blog, please write a post and use the Mister Linky below.

This was a hard one, I couldn't think of a thing. As I got writing, I thought of some (whew), but it makes me realize more needs to be in there. Some weeks are better. I had lots of Bliss a few weeks ago. Looking forward to reading everyone's.

I am thrilled that you got the top half off - I may have missed when the bottom will follow... Any chance of seeing a pic of the pearly whites?

My bliss has looked like this for this week:

- Chatting with a friend about Reiki, chakras and healing

- Petting my adorable cat

- Talking to my garden while watering them, and thanking them for inspiring me to grow

- During meditation

- hugging my man

- Right now, realizing I have been living my bliss daily :)

have a beautiful weekend!
- Jessica

Sydney, Thanks for the comments about writing for PA! :) My bottom braces...I don't know. A few more months. STUBBORN!

And what an interesting outcome you had with this exercise -- to realize you didn't have ENOUGH bliss. Good to realize. :)

Jessica, And excellent for you to see that you are living it every day.

I like your part about slowing down so you can assimulate all the things you are learning and doing. I feel like I am in the same place in that regard. Definitely need to slow down to let it all stink in. I've come to that "realization" this week (although I always knew that to be true.) Thanks for the reminder.

Ooopsie! I put my link and comment on the original enCouragingBliss post. So now it's up twice;-)

With those braces off, have you just been running your tongue across your teeth over and over? I've never had braces, but I'm sure that's what I'd do!

This is such a cool idea--thanks for doing it. And such a cool blog...

"Today, while working on a nonfiction book proposal, the first couple of paragraphs for a second novel came spilling out. Totally unexpected! Cherish it. :)

I have just completed the 37 day challenge. My focus for this challenge was beginning and maintaining a gratitude journal. Getting a gratitude attitude has given my heart a new set of eyes! It has also shown me that happiness is not a destination, its the friggin roadmap!

Happiness is always there, even if we fail to see it. Enjoy your weekend!

What a wonderful exercise, making this list!

Except I accidentally looked over a year instead of a week. Oops!

I just wrote about my day which actually was the way my week went but after reading what I wrote I think it falls in the same topic as what you wrote! I am still feeling blissful even thought I am physically feeling under the weather~

Great post!!

Thanks, that was fun. I do a daily gratitude list, but never looked back at a whole week. It's overwhelming how great things are! (Also I am even more glad I do it daily, because I can see how easily I forget.) Can't wait to see everyone else's lists.

I really like your list! :)

I realized I never commented on your list! I have some yoga cats myself, and I love that you find it bliss. (Some people, ahem, get a little grouchy about that...)

And a second novel spilling out? That is the ultimate in bliss. Congratulations

when you start having to work at manufacturing a bliss list...well, i gave up and decided to pass on this week's post. maybe bliss for me this week is knowing i don't have to make a list and i know the bliss will come back soon :-) i love what tinkerbell said:
"Happiness is always there, even if we fail to see it."

-Reading a Sunday paper with a real, live book review section.

-Talking on the phone to Pam who lives 15 miles away and later, Susan, 1500 miles away.

-Going over to friends to see their city garden and knowing the little peony bushes will be big and blooming in a month or so.

-Drinking a shandy in the sun in the same garden.

-Practicing yoga and hearing the breathing of my fellow yogis/nis which helps my breathing.

I found your blog by searching for TMJ/braces, etc. Can I ask how long you wore your braces as a part of your treatment? Did you have to wear a splint before braces?

I'm seeking out treatment myself and am curious.

Thank you!

Anon -- Regarding braces for TMJ -- no dentist, of course, will tell you that this will work for sure. I was lucky; it did, totally.

No splint. And again, I was lucky -- only about 16 months total which is very short for an adult.

I now have "permanent" retainers on top and bottom -- glued in behind the teeth, which eliminates that yucky plastic thing.

Good luck!
